Fring, the app that managed to bring somewhat awkward video-calling to previous iPhones, has updated to provide proper video-calling over 3G for the iPhone 4. Apple’s FaceTime app for the iPhone has one huge advantage over every other video-calling app: it is built in to every iPhone 4. Any other application requires not just you, the nerd of the family, to download it, but the person on the other end, too. And trust me, they won’t....

Filed under: iPhone There’s good news and a little bit (just a little bit) of bad news. Good news first: the iPhone Skype app has been updated to allow for calls using AT&T’s 3G data network. Plenty of other VoIP apps have managed to work in this functionality since Apple / AT&T started allowing it last year , but the official Skype app has been a notable holdout. Mobile iPhone calls are free until August, after which you’ll need a “mobile subscription.”...

Despite the insinuation by Silanesu that the device will feature an Intel Atom chip with some flavor of Windows on board, this latest rumor turns that whole scenario upside down by claiming the device will be powered by Android. By Gaurav Kheterpal Somewhat old news here, but you should know that Apple has removed all restrictions that prohibited making Video VoIP calls on 3G networks using the iPhone. The iPhone SDK has also been modified in order to give developers access to the Video VoIP APIs. This means you can use either iCall or Fring (which supports Skype) to make Video VoIP calls on your device and the only catch is that your carrier must allow VoIP calls to...

The implications of this deal are exciting. Google has purchased, in cash, the internet VoIP company Gizmo5 for a cool $30 million. The deal brings a true SIP/VoIP provider into the Google fold — the potential to merge the acquired technology with Google Voice and/or Google Talk is staring us right in the face. Last month there were rumors that perhaps Skype, due to legal issues with its own VoIP technology, might purchase Gizmo5 as a...
