Despite what your closet might be screaming, a man really cannot have too many boots and the Pointer Collection ‘Benson’ Boot ($200) is good enough reason to fit one more pair. The entire collection delivers a little extra flair, ratcheting up the footwear style-dial just a notch. Available in 4 colorways for the season, this mid-boot constructed from a mix of leather and suede turns heads like a pair of $400 stilettos without any unnecessary...

When we were first introduced to ShirtsMyWay more than a year ago, we walked away happy with our shirts, but some of our readers emailed us with complaints that they were less than thrilled with the first run of product. Nearly a year and a half later, we’ve revisited ShirtsMyWay and are pleased to report that the kinks have been worked out. The new ShirtsMyWay 2.0 website walks users through the shirt design process allowing for complete...

The weekend bag brands its toter like no other piece of luggage. North Face pack? Student heading to Vermont, weed in stow. Oversized Adidas gym bag? Recent grad returning from Vegas, empty-handed. Frequent trips to exceptional places demand an equally unparalleled carry-on like the Gräf & Lantz Duffel ($950) . Gräf & Lantz, a Los Angeles-based design studio constructs their gear (here in the USA including a Quiver ) from…  Read More →

When it comes to denim, raw is where it’s at. Those pre-faded, pre-whiskered, even pre-ripped jeans found in suburban malls should be left in the clearance bin. Premium raw denim has been discussed before ( here and here ), but not all men can shell out for three figure price tags. Levi’s to the rescue with a pair that’s always been offered, the 501 Original Shrink-To-Fits ($37) . For less than $50, you get a pair of classic, rigid...

As men, we strive to squeeze out every last ounce of functionality and form from our modern-day devices. From smartphones to cars, from the cameras we use to capture memories to the beers we drink, the more bells and whistles we can get for our buying dollar the better, and no where is this compromise more distinguished then when it comes time to buy a new watch. Fortunately …  Read More →

New for fall 2010, New Balance is bringing back the heritage 320 ($65) running shoe as part of their lifestyle collection. The 320, originally released in 1976 for men when the numbering system matched retail prices ($32, 320, get it?) helped vault New Balance to mainstream status as running became popular in the wake of the 1976 Olympics. Of course, the 320 isn’t $32 anymore, but the shoe does feature a one-piece upper, New Balance’  Read More →

While peering through a magnifying lens, counting 184 tiny faces carved on a cherry pit, I started to understand what sets the German watch company, A. Lange & Söhne, apart. I was in the “Green Vault” of the Residenzschloss in Dresden, the historic palace of Saxon royalty, where a staggering collection of opulent knick-knacks is on display. Room after room was filled with priceless artifacts created for kings and dukes with more money...

You spend $75 a month on your gym so you can fit into the well-tailored shirts you’ve spent hundreds of dollars buying. Problem is, you’re still sullying them with pitstains. No matter what your credo, pitstains don’t fly. Not with us and especially not with the ladies. Time for a cheap upgrade. Speed Stick with Stainguard ($4) uses a patent-pending Stain Defense formula to keep antiperspirant off your garb and on your skin,...

Alan Flusser, author of recognized men’s style books and permanent member of the International Best-Dressed List (yes, there’s a list for that), has recently published his most recent book, Style and the Man ($10) . Essentially an abridged variation of Dressing the Man, The Art of Permanent Fashion (a general reference resource at Gear Patrol), continues with his axioms and beliefs that the every-day man can accomplish style…  Read More →

Commemorating Wolverine’s 125+ years of history and the original reference number of the 1000 Mile boot , Wolverine has commissioned a series of films by Sean Sullivan to document the process of boot making in advance of the 721LTD Boot release. The resulting work is a beguiling glance at the meaning of true American craftsmanship and, in my humble opinion, this country’s grassroots manufacturing renaissance. The first of the films...

Wolf Designs is offering Gear Patrol readers 50% off the Viceroy 2.7 Module Watch Winder . Enter: PATROL50 at checkout. Expires July 20. Wearing the HM3 Frog as your everyday beater isn’t a luxury many of us can afford to have. So when presented with the option, we tend to save wearing the nicer things for the finer occasions. After all, there’s no sense in scratching up a mint condition vintage Rolex Submariner if you don’t have to...

Last summer we got to try out Orlebar Brown’s Bulldog ($138) short, an excellent beach/swim short. The ladies were big fans and we were too as we found the quality, well, stellar. New for this year Orlebar Brown has released two “Sport” shorts, the Boxer and Pup . Being such big fans of the Bulldogs, we were intrigued. An inquiry, delivery, and procurement later – the Orlebar Brown Boxer was in our hands for 9 rounds....

When Seavees created the Pantone Plimsoll ($125) they must have agreed with our sentiment that a clean pair of canvas shoes belongs in every man’s closet, especially come summer. Combining it with Pantone’s original 1963 color palette was simply a stroke of genius. After wearing a pair of Pantone White Plimsoll’s ($115) this past month we’re sold. The white Plimsoll sports an all canvas upper (other colors have a suede...

A wool T-shirt? Wool underwear? Before you think Gear Patrol reviewers are a bunch of masochistic wackos (only some of us are), consider Icebreaker Superfine wool clothing. Icebreaker is a New Zealand clothing company that is trying to convince the world that wool can be cool and comfortable, one pair of briefs at a time. Aside from some excellent outerwear, Icebreaker sells a Superfine line of wool base layers that are cool and comfortable...
