A new rumor points to an Apple TV refresh this Fall. The overhauled set-top box should run the App Store software and drop a hard drive in favor of streaming iTunes entertainment. Apple will apparently re-christen it as the iTV to reflect the iNaming convention and price aggressively at just $99. “A trusted source” also told  Read More →

Engadget is following up on their previous story about an updated Apple TV set to hit the market as a $99 set top box, complete with iPhone 4 internals. Their new report details Apple’s supposed plans to rename the living room companion from Apple TV to iTV. It also sheds some more light on what everyone has rumored — iOS applications will, in some form, make an appearance on the device. Streaming iTunes services obviously look to...

With the release of the DROID X just around the corner, we thought we would take some time and revisit one of the differentiating features of this particular Android handset: its 8 megapixel, mechanical shutter camera. We were a bit critical of the DROID X’s ability to take quality photographs with the default setting on the first try, but after some finagling — and trial and error — we’ve managed to hone our skills....

It looks like Bell won’t be the only Canadian carrier to offer the Samsung Wave . According to MobileSyrup, Rogers dealerships from coast to coast have begun receiving display units. So far pricing and a release date have not been communicated to employees, but with Bell expected to launch the Bada smartphone on July 8th, we can’t imagine that Rogers will be wanting to take its time. A rumor fresh out of Droid-Life suggests that Verizon Wireless has an update slated for the DROID Incredible that will add 720p video recording and mobile hotspot functionality to the Android handset. As an added bonus, the update reportedly includes the signature DROID red eye boot animation which adds some eye candy (pun intended) to the handset. These two enhancements, and the extra bling,  Read More →

The Nexus One’s inability to record videos in HD has always been a bit of annoyance, but thanks to a member of the xda-developers community, 720p video recording is now a go on the one true Google Phone. To get the mod to work you’ll need to be running Cyanogen’s CM5.0.8test3 and up. This means that for the time being Froyo is  Read More →

Last time on let’s-speculate-about-Apple-products, the New iPhone rumor mill dug up dirt on video chat and a 5 megapixel camera . Now, it appears there might be one more reason to call it the iPhone HD. MacRumors reports that the iPhone SDK 4 beta includes the value “AVCaptureSessionPreset1280×720,” leading some to believe Cupertino’s next phone will record video in 720p. Mind you, the iPhone 3GS was technically...

We’ve covered the Olympus E-PL1 a few times here at Geek.com. I’ve mentioned how it shoots 720p video and how it has filter effects, including one for tilt-shifting. You probably didn’t guess that the two can be combined. That’s right, the $599 E-PL1 consumer camera can mimic the effect of a much more expensive camera  Read More →

The silly little sensor in the latest-gen iPod nano might have you thinking that high-quality video recording isn’t anywhere on Apple’s radar, but if you look in the smartphone space, HD video is shaping up to be the next gotta-have-it feature among the world’s most buzzworthy handsets — and sure enough, we’re getting some hints here that it’ll be on board the next iPhone. Remember that mysterious “N89″...

Microsoft’s LifeCam Cinema is an compact HD webcam. It shoots at 720p HD (16:9, 30fps) and has a built-in microphone, making it a simple all-in-one solution that can be put on the top of any laptop screen or computer monitor. It even has a stand built in if you want to place it on a  Read More →

There’s little point in trying to disguise our interest any time a 4.8-inch multifunctional device is mentioned, so let’s get straight to the good stuff here. Cowon’s V5 HD already got a little teaser video and a full spec dish ahead of its Korean launch, but for the vast majority of us non-Korean folk, this PMP remains a distant and unfortunately mysterious object of desire. Sure, we…  Read More →

Looks like the wait for a real HD PMP is finally over: Hallods of Japan has just released their F43 MP4 player featuring a 4.3-inch 1280×720 screen, easily beating other sub-5-inch, 480p screens found on big names like the Archos 5 and Viewsonic’s VPD400 . Under that sharp screen is 8GB of internal storage and a hot-swappable microSD slot, along with a battery life of about four hours and ten hours for video and music, respectively....

A year ago Sony Ericsson’s prominence was dropping faster than Kirstie Alley could pound back Quarter Pounders, but its most recent offerings have been successful in generating buzz in a way that the Japanese-Swedish phone maker hasn’t experienced in quite some time. Fast forward to today where pictures of the companies second Symbian S60 device have leaked out by way of Russia and again we have some buzz, this time about how its...
