Spotify , the European streaming music service (that’s awesome), recently inked a deal with Sonos to allow the service to work on Sonos’ home devices. Here we have a brief demo of the magic in action. While having Spotify available on your home audio system is neat and all (and I suppose you could always plug your iPhone or computer into your home audio system), the very fact that us Americans are still a country mile away from having...

One of the big conflicts in battery tech right now is how to keep the things at the right temperature. Nissan and Mitsubishi are going with air cooling, while Tesla, Chevy , and as of today Ford are all opting for liquid temperature regulation. Since few electrics are really on the road, it seems there isn’t sufficient data to go with one over the other. When batteries get really cold, they can’t hold a charge, as BMW noticed with...

Let’s imagine a scenario where somebody releases a bit of open-source code that allows you to run homebrew—that is, non-pirated software created by indie developers—on your PS3 . Let’s imagine that the name of that software is PSGroove . The question is, do you download it, and do you go out of your way to run unsigned-but-not-pirated code on your system? How badly do you need PS3 homebrew? It’s a question at least...

As soon as Greg got back to the studio after his arduous morning of liveblogging, we decided to check in regarding the Apple event. Don’t like reading? Don’t like regular news anchors giving you your Apple news? This hard-hitting video is for you.  Read More →

I’m going to just assume that if you’re reading this, you’re familiar with torrenting and the like. It’s pretty much commonplace now and while I’m not here to argue its legal ground, it’s a fact that many people get their TV and movie content this way. Yes, it’s illegal, but the fact is there are products specifically geared for that market. The Apple TV isn’t one of them. Oh no, the Apple TV is...

Afraid that the almighty government will sneak into your driveway, attach a GPS device to your car, then track your every move? Perhaps you should be more afraid of what your child’s school has in mind? A Chicago-area elementary school will keep track of students’ bus rides using GPS . This a move to ease parents’ concerns about the perils of bus rides! Children have been riding in school buses to school for how many years, and only now...

Forgive the music because you’re going to wanna trudge through this video . It is by far the best Samsung Galaxy Tab video to date and might be some sort of official demo. The entire 2:43 video is filled with nothing but action shots and size comparisons. Is it an iPad killer? Still hard to tell, but this video certain makes a case for it. Click through for the video.  Read More →

This is sheer speculation, but I’m thinking that having a complete retro-style box, rental-style plastic case, and old-school-mom-and-pop-style fabricated receipt is going to pretty much make Retro City Rampage the must-have swag stop at PAX. The game looks pretty awesome, too.  Read More →

Wanna get some good lulz around the office? Convert your parent’s old typewriter into a USB keyboard. That and the ol’ stapler in a Jell-O mold prank. This isn’t a late-night project. It takes a good amount of soldering and overall know-how. Plus, a few parts you probably don’t have laying around. But it really doesn’t look that hard as long as you’re the slow and steady type. The instructables guide takes...

Yay! Only a little while ago we reported that the Droid X — despite its self destruct trigger — was able to run a custom recovery , with the prospect of running custom ROMs (the goal of any self-respecting Android power user) following in the not-too-distant future. Well, consider it the future, baby, as the first videos of a Droid X running a custom ROM — namely the AOSP Sapphire ROM — have surfaced from Twitter user...

Japanese watch maker Haruo Suekichi is famous for his unique, steampunk style timepieces. Each of the amazing watches is handmade by Suekichi himself, even though he doesn’t have any formal education and actually started his career by hawking the first watches at flea markets. Guest writer Natsuki Yamada sat down with Suekichi in his studio in Tokyo earlier this month to conduct the following interview…  Read More →

Some things just amaze me. Despite the fact that people are paying more for theater tickets then ever, the MPAA and their ilk are crying about how they aren’t making as much money due to piracy. I suggest that the real pirates here are the theater owners, who are raising ticket prices at the highest year to year rate ever. Of course, people keep going to the movies because it remains a cheaper form of entertainment (for now). However some...

As the video card wars continue, the as of yet unreleased AMD Radeon HD 6870 looks to be a serious weapon. How do we know? Well, the Chinese website PCinLife.com managed to get a benchmark showing some very interesting information about the new card. A 3DMark score of 11,500 is about 2,500 more then the previous high end card, the Nvidia GTX 480 and the  Read More →

The Mac Pro isn’t exactly known for being a terribly loud computer, but I guess you can make it even quieter by adding liquid cooling. Of course, it’s not Apple approved so adding this type of technology will no doubt void your warranty, but it would give you the ability to overclock your machine. In fact, this is exactly what someone from Asetek did ; added liquid cooling to an 8-Core Mac Pro, and then overclocked it from 2.8Ghz...
