Autonomous Bipedal Robot Built Out Of DNA

By Evan Ackerman I don’t know enough about molecular biology for how this works to make any sense to me, but apparently, researchers at NYU have created an autonomous bipedal walking robot out of a single strand of DNA with a linkage in the middle. I’m going to just let them explain how it works: The walking device consists of a strand of DNA that contains a 5’,5’ linkage in the middle. One leg is called L-E and the other is called L-O. It walks on a track consisting of a series of stem-loops (T1-T4) that are part of a stiff DX motif. It …

RoboDev: MIT’s ‘Huggable’ Telepresence Bear
[Gadgets]Lonely? MIT has the companion robot for you. It’s Huggable (that’s Huggable™), who’s sort of like some robotic love child between a ConnectR, a Pleo, and a tribble (a robotic tribble). The end result is designed to be a much more tactile and friendly form for robotic companionship and telepresence. Pretty much his entire body is (or will be soon) c...

Putter Bot: The Cutest Little Golfer Around
[Golf]While Tiger is out for knee rehabilitation, all sorts of competitors are stepping up to take his place. The most notable (and by notable we mean adorable) challenger may be the Putter Bot. Falling just short of Pixar-level anthropomorphism, we'd still feel absolutely horrible to watch the little guy lose a shoot-out against the Phil Mickelson Bot.
