Winter Boots Feature Studded Reversible Treads
Winter Boots Feature Studded Reversible Treads
By Chris Scott Barr After spending a week in Vegas for CES, I was less than thrilled to come back home and find more snow on the ground. This means trading in my shoes for boots as I go wandering around outside. But even boots don’t always have the grip one needs for traversing the frozen landscape. That is why these particular boots have...

R1 radio has a control method you’ve never seen before
Here’s a new way to control a radio: by rolling it. The design is simple, with the direction you roll the R1 Radio doing one of two things. Sliding it up and down will adjust the volume, as well as turn the radio off; side-to-side and you can adjust tuning. From the designer: “An analog radio is one of most important product for a...
Ikea factory tour reveals the secret of Ikea’s $8 table: paper
In the video above Nat Geo takes a look at Ikea’s wookworking factory in Zbaszynek, Poland. Here Ikea produces massive amounts of wood furniture using a process known as board-on-frame. What this basically means is that table next to your bed is so light because it’s not solid wood. Instead it’s practically hollow but has  Read More →

Build your own single-seater airplane for $2,000
It’s hard to imagine an airplane being something so simple that you could build one with parts from your local hardware store, but apparently the Pietenpol has the blueprint to make it work. And they’ve been making it work since 1928 . It all started when Bernard Pietenpol, with only an 8th grade education, set out to make the “common...

Toshiba’s Escargot Vacuum Will Make You Ashamed To Have A Dirty Home
By Andrew Liszewski I’ve no idea when and where one could get their hands on this thing, but Toshiba’s Escargot vacuum cleaner, which was designed in collaboration with Electrolux, is really one nice piece of eye candy. Everything rolls up or fits into the space between the large brushed aluminum wheels, and the cyclone vacuum means...

RetroCrunch: The Bloc-Alarm door stop
Going to try something a bit different today, and talk about some retro technology. Here’s a rather simple gadget called a Bloc-Alarm. Intended for the cheapskate who doesn’t want to actually pay for an alarm service, or for someone that is staying in a hotel, the Bloc-Alarm is basically a wedge shaped door block that triggers if someone...

Leaked Nexus One firmware update packs more radio fixes
The folks over at XDA-Developers have posted a new, non-over-the-air, firmware build for the Nexus One. The new build contains, among other things, an update to the radio firmware. Several days ago we reported on how some N1 users could trigger a dropped 3G connection or poor 3G signal by simply putting their hand over the lower half of their...
