Beriscope: underwater sightseeing without getting wet

Test A Blackberry 4 Free

Designer Jaewon Choi’s “Beriscope” is an interesting blend of aquatic technology. It’s a fishing rod that isn’t for catching the critters, but instead for viewing them without ever having to enter the water yourself. Instead, you cast a camera out into the water and then use the Beriscope like a periscope, watching from the shore. It’s just a concept, but it seems like it’d be a pretty good way to kill some time by a lake or river. Check out more of the Beriscope in the gallery below. Via Yanko Design

Underwater Scuba Mask Camera does photos and videos, lets you breathe
You know, having to lug a camera around while diving just spoils the fun, not to mention the slight chance that you’ll also need your hands to fend off some underfed sharks. Etronixmart may have solved this problem with its $116.99 Underwater Scuba Mask Camera, which sports a snorkel plus 4GB of storage, and does 1280 x 960 for both still...
ION Cube: if the Borg ever started selling computers
ION Cube: if the Borg ever started selling computers
NVIDIA put out a call for fancy casemods using its ION ITX platform. What came back? Well, fancy casemods! The ION Cube is a design by Bill Owen of Mnpctech.com , and it won first place in NVIDIA’s competition. It’s a fully functional computer — one that glows, to boot. “The concept reminded me of when LEGOS started incorporating...

The Punch Camera takes pictures by punching holes
The Punch Camera is just like any other digital camera, but with a twist. You can still load your photos onto a computer via USB, but the Punch also has a series of pins that you can use to literally punch a rasterized image onto a piece of paper. You lose a lot of definition and color, but there’s an undeniable charm to the finished result....

Hoover Dam Bypass Bridge is a sight to behold
Construction on the Colorado River Bridge — part of the Hoover Dam Bypass Project — began back in ‘05, but it’s finally at a place where it’s ready to show off. It’s supposed to be finished by the end of next year and, when it is, it’ll bridge the gap of the Black Canyon, stretching nearly 2,000 feet and...

One man’s wall of urinals is another’s cascading fountain
One urinal overflowing is bad enough, but 15 of them? Well, that’s another beat altogether. A fountain, in fact, if this bathroom is any indication. The water creates a lake on the floor, and there’s even little stepping blocks to get across the room. Just one question: how do you flush? Wait, I don’t think I want to know —...

Concept iPad Wall could usher in next-gen digital library
One of the cool things about watching some of the iPad naysayers rant against the device is observing the lack of imagination regarding the iPad’s possibilities. Australian architecture firm ClarkeHopkinsClarke has tapped just one of the possible uses of the device to come up with a concept design for what amounts to an iPad-powered library...

LA Auto Show 2009: Concept Cars
By Evan Ackerman You can have your exotic cars , and you can have your eco-friendly cars , but no, you can’t have concept cars . Not yours. These flights of imagination are never for sale, are rarely street legal, and often don’t work at all. But damn are they cool looking, and their very unobtainability and uniqueness make them that...

Anne Forschner, a student of design at the Pforzheim University in Germany, proves that concept cars can be futuristic, sexy, and ecologically responsible. These street light feeds on trash for power
From designer Haneum Lee comes a concept that could see streets lit while keeping trash off of them, too. At the base of every street light is a wastebasket that turns what it can use into compost, while using methane gas to generate the power needed to keep the lights on. It’s an interesting thought, to be sure — one that may not...
